RIC MPO Traffic Studies

The Regional Intergovernmental Council Metropolitan Planning Organization (RIC MPO) has a history of analyzing crash data for the two-county Metropolitan Planning Area of Kanawha and Putnam counties. After conducting a system-wide analysis of the crash data, hot spot locations calling for more in-depth analysis were studied.

In June of 2023, the RIC Policy Board, the governing body of the RIC MPO adopted the RIC Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP) for Kanawha and Putnam counties. One of the key action items the RIC MPO has taken on as a part of the action plan, was to conduct crash hotspot location studies at 2 locations annually. As a result, RIC’s history of conducting regular traffic safety analyses was now solidified into a policy of conducting them yearly.
